How to Adopt

If you are interested in adopting a companion from us, please be sure to read about our Adoption Policies, then read about our Adoption Procedure.

Dogs and cats are the most common pets found at the Humane Society's shelter, but there are a wide variety of other animals. Everything from hamsters and guinea pigs to birds rabbits and other animals are often available for adoption.

Even if the animal you are interested in has already been adopted we may have another that can provide just as much love for your family. Come out to the shelter to see who's available. You may find just what you are looking for.

If you are looking for a specific type of animal, check out our Match-A-Pet program.

Adopting a Pet from CCHS

Hours for Adoptions
Mon, Wed, Thurs, and Fri: 2 PM to 7 PM
Sat and Sun - 11 AM to 5 PM

The shelter is closed on Tuesdays and legal holidays.

"Special Adoptions"
At the shelter, you'll see a number of dogs designated as "special adoptions." When adopting one of these dogs, we require the adopter to commit to taking the dog through a dog-training class or appropriate canine behavior consultation. All of the following dogs are designated as special adoptions: (1) dogs under 1-year of age; (2) dogs that are Pit Bulls or Pit mixes; and (3) other dogs that the CCHS staff have determined will have an increased chance of success if they are provided some structured guidance and/or training.

Adoption Fees

  • Dogs: $95.00 - $150
  • Cats: $50.00 - $100
  • Kittens and Puppies under five months of age: $100 - $150

Adoption fees help cover the costs incurred in housing the animal while at the shelter and are not refundable. Expenses include food, shelter, spay/neuter surgery and other medical care.

Adult cats: A generous donor has been established the Ms. Garbo Fund to help families adopt a second adult cat by paying the adoption fee. Ask for more information at the shelter.

Seniors: Qualified people, age 60 and older, to adopt a cat, seven years or older, with no adoption fee. Dogs six years or older are half price. See our “Seniors for Seniors” program.

Animals in Foster Care: Some animals need a little more TLC than others. Read about our “Home to Home” foster adoptions.
