Old Man Abbott (AKA Shadow)

I adopted him in March 2006 when he was the young age of 17.  He joined my family of 2 other CCHS alums, Bryce and Cameron (formally Dash).  He quickly adjusted to life with me and he stole my heart immediately. 

He had a few health problems, but nothing a few meds couldn’t help. He became part of our family and found his niche.  Sadly, we lost Bryce in the Fall of 2007 to cancer. Even though they weren’t the best of friends, I saw Abbott search the house for Bryce for a few weeks. It broke my heart.

In December of 2007, we then took in another CCHS alum, a 3 month old lab/rot mix named, Barlow (formally Borris).  Abbott showed Barlow the chain of command and Barlow listened well to this 19 y/o dog.  Abbott started to decline physically in the late spring and early summer of 2008. He continued to fight his health issues and enjoyed his life with us (as evidenced by his always wagging tail).

Unfortunately, the heart failure and kidney failure continued to become worse. Sadly, he went to eternal sleep on September 14, 2008. 

There is a hole in my heart and a missing piece in my house.  I will miss his eager and begging eyes when I eat, his uncoordinated, but effective run when we were playing, his always wagging tail (even to the end) and when he always searched for me when he entered the house from the backyard. 

We will never be the same without old man Abbott.
