"Mouse"
Adopted October, 1992
Went to the Rainbow Bridge - August 15, 2005
In 1992, we went to the CC Humane Society to find just the right pet for our home. Sitting in one of the small cages was an emaciated young terrier-mix, who was shaking so hard we could hear the sounds from a distance. We learned that Mouse (she really looked like a rat) had been abused by two previous owners, and to say she was skittish, would be a mild understatement. Despite having many others to choose from, my daughter decided she was just the right dog for our family.
It took a while to earn her trust and we spent some of our early days hand feeding her, but she soon blended into the family and has thrived. Now, she's getting on in years, but her gentleness and love for people (despite her past) continues to grow. Quite by accident at a CCHS event, we met Mouse's foster caretakers and learned that Mouse had three puppies who were adopted before she was. We often wonder where they are and what they look like.
Update:
I wanted to let you know that CC Humane Society Alum "Mouse" (1992) died on August 15, 2005 after a long and happy life with her adopted family, Tom and Stephenie Graham. Miss Mouse had inflammatory mammory adenocarcinoma (breast cancer) that took her life quickly. She will be missed greatly.
When Miss Mouse was adopted, she had been badly abused by two previous owners. She was the most gentle dog we've ever known and had a wonderful life, sharing her home with two other resident dogs and, on occasion, two grand-puppies (CCHS alums). Thanks to CCHS for giving her a chance at the life she deserved, and thanks to Harriot Weatherford for serving as her foster "mother."
