November 18th, 2011. Candace McMaster, a long time supporter of CCHS, and her husband Steve wanted to do something special for both her father who loved animals and the shelter. The Adopt a Day program was perfect! Jack was a retired salesman living in Florida with his wife Emma Jean, daughter Pam, and son Alex when he passed away from cancer in 1996. He enjoyed golf, swimming in the gulf, gardening, and spending time with his family. Candace’s Dad would have been delighted to help everyone at the shelter with all the daily expenses. Although Jack is dearly missed by friends and family, the McMasters are glad to remember him in this wonderful way by helping the many animals at the Champaign County Humane Society. For Candace, the Adopt-a-Day program was just another opportunity to support CCHS. She has been a volunteer for a long time, and even her dogs Suzie and Teddy Bear participate in various humane education programs like the Adventure Camp. |

November 14, 2009. On November 14th, 34 years ago, Karen took her first solo flight. Now a commercial pilot flying worldwide for UPS, Karen enjoys an exciting career. When Karen's feet are on the ground she spends much of her time working on behalf of animals. She is a former CCHS board member and has long been a supporter of CCHS and the UI School of Veterinary Medicine.Karen adopted this day to celebrate the anniversary of her first solo flight and show her support for the mission of CCHS. Karen's adoption of November 14th will cover all of our costs for one day at CCHS. Thank you, Karen! |
December 6, 2009. Champaign County Humane Society board member Amy Fischer and her husband, Kevin Brown, have generously adopted Sunday, December 6, in loving memory of Virginia V. Fischer, Amy's mother. Virginia Fischer, a resident of Rhinelander Wisconsin, passed away on September 30, 2009. December 6 would have been her 67th birthday. Virginia was in her own way a "humane educator." She was a natural teacher and had tremendous respect and love for nature and all living things. Her generosity and compassion touched countless animals as well as people. Even from hundreds of miles away, she was a CCHS supporter. Virginia enjoyed being a Mutt Strut sponsor and donated many items for the Giant Garage Sale. On the sad occasions when Amy and Kevin lost pets, Virginia made donations to CCHS in their memory. Virginia was a science teacher, a 6th grade teacher, and a health educator. She was an active supporter of 4-H programs and a key member of 4-H summer camp and a county fair project leader. Along with her husband, Donald Fischer, she was named the 1993 Wisconsin Master Shepherd. She was active with her church and her community. We are very grateful to Amy and Kevin for adopting December 6th in Virginia's memory. Their donation will cover the entire cost of CCHS operations for one day. We hope that Amy and Kevin take some comfort from knowing that Virginia continues to touch the lives of animals through their generous deed. |
