Frequently Asked Questions about the Sale

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, we will give you a blank tax form. We do not set the value, nor list what is donated. This is the donor's responsibility.

Will you pick-up stuff?
We no longer pick-up items at peoples homes, as it was a huge drain on our volunteers.

When is the latest I can drop-off items?
We must stop accepting drop-offs at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 in order that we have the time to ready the building for the sale.

Is there an admission to the sale?
On Friday (May 27) there will be a $2 admission charge until 3 p.m.

Will there be a bag sale?
Yes, on Saturday, May 28, at 3 p.m. We’ll close the building about 2:30 to straighten up and organize and then shoppers back inside. We provide the bags. Everything you can fit in a bag is $3. The bag sale ends at 6 p.m. this year.

Will I be able to put a “hold” on an item?
Sorry, all sales must be cash and carry.

Will there be food available onsite?
Yes, there will be a concession again this year. They’ll have coffee available for early shoppers and an assortment of food and drinks throughout the sale.

What do I do if I want to volunteer?
Contact CCHS at 344-7297 or cuhumane.org or 2.volunteer@cuhumane.org or mlpayne@illinois.edu.

Is there any special help you need?
If you have a truck or van and are willing to help us with set-up/breakdown on Sunday, May 15, and or Sunday, May 29, or Monday, May 30, that would be super. Also, we will need extra people who are able to come in after the sale to bag leftovers, tear down tables and clean the building. The volunteers who work the sale are worn pretty thin by then, so any help for cleanup would be deeply appreciated.
