What is Mutt Strut?

Mutt Strut is a dog walk and fundraiser for the Champaign County Humane Society.  Participants register to walk their dogs at the Mutt Strut and are encouraged to recruit "sponsors."  Sponsors make donations in the name of a human/dog team--or a shelter dog--and all donations benefit the animals at CCHS.  Registration is $25 in advance, or $35 on the day of the Strut.

On Saturday May 2nd, Mutt Strut participants will gather for a blessing of the dogs and a group walk around Hessel Park.  After the walk, Humane Society volunteers will lead a number of canine-friendly activities, games, and contests that humans and dogs are sure to enjoy!

How do you participate?

Ask family members, friends, and coworkers to make a donation to sponsor you and your dog at the Mutt Strut.

If you would like to participate but don't have a dog to walk, you can still collect donations on behalf of a shelter dog, or in honor or memory of a beloved pet or animal lover.

There are two ways that you can collect donations and keep track of your sponsors. 

  1. You can collect donations of cash or checks and use the attached form to record your sponsors' donations. 
  2. Or, you can collect donations on line through the Champaign County Humane Society's fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/cuhumane. 

Using FirstGiving is also a walk in the park! Just follow these instructions:

  1. Go to FirstGiving.com/cuhumane
  2. Click “Get Started”
  3. Register for the event
  4. Enter your email address
  5. Enter your address and choose a password
  6. Set up your FirstGiving page—use your own words and photos, too, if you’d like
  7. Send your FirstGiving page to your family and friends
  8. Raise money for the homeless animals at the Champaign County Humane Society!!!

Sponsor a shelter mutt!

Just go to www.firstgiving.com/shelterdog and donate $25 using your credit card, or send a check to Mutt Strut 2009, Champaign County Humane Society, 1911 E. Main, Urbana, IL 61802.

Prizes

The person who raises the most money for CCHS will receive all of the following:

$100 cash
Two tickets to the CCHS Fur Ball on Sep 25th (a $150 value!)
Items from the list below according to amount raised


  1. Prizes for all fundraisers
    Raise $100 - 200, receive a paws wristband
    Raise $201 - $400, receive wristband plus "Save Our Pets" window cling
    Raise $401 - $600, receive above items plus pet themed magnet
    Raise $601 - $800, receive above items plus CCHS cookbook
    Raise $801 - $1000, receive above items plus pet themed jewelry
    Raise over $1000, receive above items plus CCHS tank top

    Contest deadline is 5:00 pm May 1, 2009 (the day before the event). All cash and checks must be at the shelter by that time. Donations will be accepted after that time, but will not count towards the contest.

Mutt Strut Activities

8:00 a.m. Check-in begins (coffee and donuts for early birds while supplies last!)

8:45 a.m. Blessing of the animals

9:00 a.m. Walk begins

9:45 a.m. Contests for dogs and people too!

The Rules

  1. All dogs must be on a standard (6-foot) leash (retractable leashes will not be allowed.)
  2. Proof of rabies vaccination is required at check-in (current tag or certificate.)
  3. CCHS reserves the right to prohibit participation of any dog displaying aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs.
  4. Dog handlers must be at least 18 years old.
  5. Participants must clean up after their dogs.
