CCHS Launches the Pet Pals Club for Youth ages 10- 15!
CCHS is proud to launch a new experiential learning program specifically designed for animal lovers between the ages of 10 and 15. The Pet Pals Club replaces the former youth volunteer program.
The Pet Pals Club will meet at CCHS on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 4 to 5:30 pm. Each club meeting will include an instructional presentation on an animal welfare or animal sheltering topic, plus an opportunity for the club members to interact with shelter animals.
Pet Pals Club programs are supervised so that parents or mentors need not be present. The cost of a 3-month membership is $25 and pre-registration is required. To enroll, please stop by the shelter or call 344-7297 and speak with a staff member about enrolling in the Pet Pals Club (payment required at time of enrollment via cash, check, or credit card).

Classroom Programs
Invite an educator from the Champaign County Humane Society to your school or meeting site. Classroom programs are available free of charge. When possible, an animal ambassador may be included in the lesson.
- Play it Safe around Dogs!
Do your students know how to interact safely with dogs? Using a realistic stuffed animal, they learn the proper steps for meeting a dog and how to act appropriately around all kinds of animals, including their own pets. Age 4 through second grade.
- Wild Animal or Pet?
In this interactive program, students learn the difference between wild animals, farm animals, and pets. They also discuss the responsibilities that people have toward each group. Age 4 through second grade.
- Too Many Dogs and Cats!
Put on your problem-solving cap to search for solutions to pet overpopulation. Students discuss the reasons why there are so many homeless pets, and they brainstorm ways to place all of those animals in loving homes. Third grade and up.
- Inside CCHS
What is animal sheltering? How do shelters care for all of those animals? We answer all of your questions about the Champaign County Humane Society in this very informative program. Students discuss the important role that animal shelters play in communities and learn how they can help by volunteering and donating. Fifth grade and up.
- What is Animal Cruelty?
The CCHS Humane Investigator explains what animal cruelty is and what students can do to prevent and report it. Citing past investigations, students discuss animal cruelty in its various forms. They also learn which Illinois laws are in place to keep companion animals safe. Fifth grade and up.
Shelter Tours
Ever wonder what happens “behind the scenes” at the Champaign County Humane Society? Do you have a class, scout troop, or other group that would like a tour of the CCHS facilities? Shelter tours are an interactive and educational experience for all ages and are available free of charge.
Invite Us To Your Special Event!
CCHS would love to visit your career day, special event, or fair. We’ll bring informational materials and also encourage children and adult visitors to talk to us about animal welfare issues, adoption policies and animals in general. When possible, small animals may accompany the presenter.
