Champaign County Pets Reach for Olympic Gold at First Ever Doggielympics!
This spring, the pets of East Central Illinois will come together to make history at the first ever Doggielympics! The Champaign County Humane Society is holding their spring open house this year on Saturday May 6th from 10-3pm, with a twist. In addition to experts from local animal welfare organizations, this year the humane society brings ASPCA regional experts and All the Hits Q96 to the shelter for a one day, one of a kind, event.
The day’s events will include interactive games and representatives on hand from the U of I Prevet Club, Companion Animal Club, ASPCA Animal Behavior Center, Animal Control, ASPCA Poison Control Center, Companion Animal Resource and Education Center and CCHS humane educators. All the Hits Q96 will also be on hand to giveaway prizes and keep tabs on the medal count. As if this wasn’t enough, all the day’s activities will be centered around the first ever, first annual, Doggielympics!
Think your dog is the fastest on the block? Prove it in the 50 yard dash. Is he the most obedient pooch in town? Show your stuff in the obedience contest! These are only two of the 8 events that will separate the big dogs from the pups. The day’s competition will culminate with the crowning of Champaign Urbana’s first Pentathlon champion! >From 10-3pm, the competition will be fierce but in the end, there can only be one champion (but everyone wins a prize).
Think your pooch is too little to run with the big dogs? Never fear. The Doggielympics is split into youth, adult, senior and toy breed categories. Everyone has got a shot at the gold! Think you’re still too little? Come out anyway and enjoy our supervised play area for puppies 5 months and younger. No need to make an appointment for puppy play time, the more the merrier.
You can preregister for Doggielympics until May 1st or you can register the day of the event at our earlybird registration starting at 9 am. You can visit the Champaign County Humane Society’s website at www.cuhumane.org for more info, registration forms and downloadable flyers that you can put up at work or home.
Come to play…come to learn…come to have a doggone good time!
