Kittens to benefit from annual "Kitten Shower"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Champaign County Humane Society will hold its annual Kitten Shower from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 19 at Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana. The Humane Society has designed the Kitten Shower to be like a baby shower, only for kittens. Adult Cats and more than 10 litters of Kittens will be at the shower and available for adoption.-30-Stephen J. Notaro, CCHS Executive Director says "during Kitten Season the shelter takes in nearly 200 cats and kittens per month, putting a tremendous strain on shelter resources." Kitten Season typically runs from May through October, with most litters born in late spring and early summer. "Everyone is invited to the Kitten Shower. It is a great opportunity to meet the kittens and to make a difference in their lives by donating a gift from the Kitten Wish List."
Items the kittens are wishing for include: Canned or Dry Kitten food (Iams or Science Diet); Canned or Dry Cat food (Iams or Science Diet); Kitten Milk Replacement (KMR); Small Feeding Bottles (to help the Kittens who have lost their Mother); Heating Pads (to help keep kittens warm); Cat Litter (unscented and non-scoopable); Cat Nail Trimmer; Ping Pong Balls (Kittens love to play with these); Washable Kitty Toys; Medium-sized Pet Carriers; Bleach; Paper Towels
The CCHS adoption process includes application approval and a one-day waiting period before a pet can be taken home. Fees for pet adoption are $45 for cats and kittens and $60 for dogs and puppies. Founded in 1951, the Champaign County Humane Society is a private not-for-profit organization. The CCHS strives to prevent cruelty to animals, to promote animal welfare, and to educate the public about the humane care and treatment of animals. The Humane Society is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
