It's Bark to School Time!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Join the Champaign County Humane Society for Summer Adopt-A-Thon 2000, August 18 to 20 at 1911 E. Main St., Urbana. More than 200 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, guinea pigs and rabbits will be available for adoption, and the Humane Society is open for special extended hours Ð from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Already have a pet? Not looking for a furry family member? You can still help the homeless pets by stopping by the shelter and contributing to the Bark to School supply drive. This year the animals at the Humane Society have lots of things on their special Bark to School list, including Iams or Science Diet pet food (both canned and dry), Kong toys, Nylabones, Paper Towels, Bleach, Unflavored Pedialyte and Cotton Towels.

You can also help the homeless pets this fall by collecting Homeless Homer points from the back of Heinz and Cycle pet products. Each point is worth between a half cent and ten cents. Points may be mailed or dropped off at the shelter.

The CCHS adoption process includes application approval and a one-day waiting period before a pet can be taken home. Adoption fees are $45 for cats and kittens and $60 for dogs and puppies. Founded in 1951, the Champaign County Humane Society is a private not-for-profit organization. The CCHS strives to prevent cruelty to animals, to promote animal welfare, and to educate the public about the humane care and treatment of animals. The Humane Society is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 344-7297 for more information. Summer Adopt-A-Thon 2000, Bark to School is sponsored by Busey Bank.
