FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sarge, Grant, Annabelle and Hummingbird have high hopes for finding a new home during the Champaign County Humane SocietyÕs Summer Adopt-A-thon Õ99 on Friday, August 20 through Sunday, August 22. The Humane Society will be open for special extended hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.More than 200 cats, dogs, kittens, puppies, rabbits and hamsters will be available for adoption during this special event and all of these pets hope theyÕll be "seeing blue" by Sunday evening. At the Humane Society, blue dots on an animalÕs cage card indicate that the pet has been adopted and is going home. CCHSÕs goal for the weekend is to send at least 99 pets home for Adopt-A-Thon Õ99. "Be sure to look for our blue dots around town," says Executive Director Stephen J. Notaro. "WeÕre putting signs with big blue dots around Champaign and Urbana to help raise awareness about the large number of homeless pets in our area and to promote this special event." Signs are available at the Humane Society. Please call 217-344-7297 for more information.
The CCHS adoption process includes application approval and a one-day waiting period before a pet can be taken home. Fees for pet adoption are $45 for cats and kittens and $60 for dogs and puppies. Founded in 1951, the Champaign County Humane Society is a private not-for-profit organization. The CCHS strives to prevent cruelty to animals, to promote animal welfare, and to educate the public about the humane care and treatment of animals. The Humane Society is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. -30-
