Champaign County Humane Society voted "Top Dog" by Buzz readers

Earlier today, Champaign-Urbana’s local weekly publication the Buzz published their annual “Best of Champaign-Urbana”.  Every year, the Buzz asks its readers to vote on the best things about Champaign-Urbana.    From the best place for a first date to the best diner, the Buzz explores all aspects of our community.  The votes are tallied, and the Champaign County Humane Society has been voted the best place in Champaign-Urbana to get a pet!!

Kate Meghji, Shelter Manager for the CCHS was ecstatic to hear the advance news of the honor, “We work very hard at providing a quality experience for our adopters.  I may be a little biased but I thought we were a shoe-in.  It means a lot to us that the voters recognize our efforts.”

In the last year, CCHS has placed over 2,100 animals into forever homes.  CCHS provides shelter to an enormous variety of homeless animals, supplying them with care, medical attention, and socialization during their stay.  The shelter population includes dogs, cats, rabbits, and hamsters- as well as lizards, birds, turtles, ferrets and many other small animals.  To check out the selection of animals available for adoption, visit CCHS online at www.cuhumane.org, or stop by in person.

CCHS, located at 1911 E. Main St., Urbana, one mile east of the intersection of Main Street and Cunningham Avenue, is open 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

CCHS, incorporated in 1951 by a diverse group of local citizens who cared deeply about animals, is not a government body and is not supported by tax dollars. CCHS is an "open door" shelter and accepts all animals needing shelter, regardless of age, physical condition, or adoptability. As a local, not-for-profit charity, CCHS exists through the generosity of many individuals and businesses and is supported by a community that cares.
