For Immediate Release Champaign County Humane Society to Honor Dr. Sandra Manfra Maretta and the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Dr. Sandra Manfra Maretta, a renowned veterinary surgeon and expert in the field of veterinary dentistry, will receive the honor of Humanitarian of the Year in recognition of her outstanding leadership as an educator and an advocate for partnerships between the Champaign County Humane Society and the College of Veterinary Medicine and for her dedication to ensuring quality veterinary care for all animals. The College of Veterinary Medicine will receive the honor of Humane Organization of the Year, in great appreciation of the College of Veterinary Medicine and the many faculty, staff, and students who share their time, resources and talents in partnership with the Champaign County Humane Society to ensure quality veterinary care for all animals. Over many years, the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and the Humane Society have worked in partnership to provide veterinary students with experience in shelter medicine and surgical practice. While the students gain knowledge and experience to round out their education, the animals at the Humane Society receive a standard of care that would be difficult to achieve without the University’s support and participation. Cold Noses, Warm Hearts starts with a cocktail hour at 6:00 p.m. Bidding on the silent auction also opens at 6:00. The second portion of the evening begins at 7:00 p.m., and will include dinner, the award presentations, and the live auction. Comedian Tim Cavanaugh will serve as host for the evening, for the second year in a row. Reservations for Cold Noses Warm Hearts are required. The deadline to make a reservation has been extended, but seating is limited and guests are encouraged to make their reservations as soon as possible. The Champaign County Humane Society is a 501(C)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to preventing animal cruelty, promoting animal welfare, and educating the public about humane care and treatment of animals. The CCHS receives no government funding and is not affiliated with any national organizations.
