Run With the Dogs

On Saturday morning, July 26th, 2008, Members of the Champaign-Urbana running club, Second Wind, will provide adoptable dogs from the Champaign County Humane Society (CCHS) with a chance to go for a run and enjoy the outdoors.  Run With the Dogs is a new monthly activity that benefits both organizations.

CCHS Shelter Manager, Kate Meghji, explained:  “When Second Wind runners approached us about a monthly Run With the Dogs, we were thrilled.  These excursions provide our adoptable dogs with great exposure as well as exercise and a field trip to Meadow Brook Park.”  The first Run With the Dogs was held in May, after participating runners were trained on dog-handling skills by CCHS staff.  CCHS staff members and volunteers are always present at Run With the Dogs to assist with the dogs and make sure they don’t get over tired or over heated.

This Saturday, Second Wind runners will arrive at Meadowbrook Park at 9:00 a.m. to walk, jog, or run with the dogs until 11:00 a.m.  Members of the public are encouraged to come out and meet adoptable dogs.  CCHS staff members and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions.

CCHS dogs will be easy to recognize in their handsome “Adopt Me” vests,

custom made by a member of Second Wind Runners.
