Great Pairs!

We’ve had some pretty wonderful adoptions during these past few chilly months.  Sometimes when it gets cold outside, we need to cuddle with a furry friend or two to keep warm.  This was the case recently for some Guinea Pigs that were having a short stay at our shelter.  They came in around the same time, but not actually together.  When someone came to us looking for a new Guinea Pig friend, they thought, “why not try two?”  Of course we were happy to give it a shot and judging by the photo evidence provided by their new mother, things are working out famously!  Charlie and Joey (formerly Giotto) spend most of their time snuggling under the hut in their new luxury apartment.

We also managed to make another pair, but with two shelter dogs.  The family who adopted a small puppy named Hamlet late last year, had come back to the shelter looking to add another friend to the family.  That new friend ended up being a long-term resident that we all knew as Diamond.  She was adopted in early February, and luckily is getting to spend the last bit of cold weather with her new canine and human companions in a great forever home.

Finally we were also able to reunite a great pair of dogs.  We took in two bouncy lab brothers, Max and Rocket, who needed a temporary place to stay.  We all know just how difficult it is to find homes for pairs of animals, so we made a tough call and decided to separate them.  They did really well on their own runs, because they were young and adaptable.  Rocket ended up moving to Chicago when his adopter got a new job.  This was fine until his adopter found that she just couldn’t spend enough time with him.  She ended up bringing him back to us, as he was spending upwards of 14 hours a day in a crate.  When Rocket came back, we contacted Max’s adopters, and they were very interested.  They applied to adopt him and after a great dog introduction – voila! – we had reunited these brothers!
