Hello Everyone! We are well into spring and things are still going very well for us! We placed 195 animals into new homes during April, which brings the total for the year to 858 adoptions. That's 138 ahead of last year! The cats Regina and Randolph were among the April adoptions, as were the dogs Ginger and Lex. Congratulations to all of them on their new homes!
Bark in the Park was a great success again this year. We had a lot of dogs in attendance, including Ginger and Jester who came out from the shelter. The Lure course and the painting station were kept very busy with dogs ready to have fun. We raised nearly $11,000 this year, and it wouldn't have been possible without your help! Thanks again to those of you that helped, we really appreciate the time!
The adoptathon went well, the final totals are not in yet, but we have placed over 50 pets into new homes. Among the adoptees for the weekend were Snowwhite the 13 year old cat, and Charlene the German Shepard. Best of luck to them in their new homes!
Now that its May, its time to think about the annual CCHS Giant Garage Sale which will be held on May 23rd and 24th. Last year the sale made over $32,000 to help the animals in our care, and we still need lots of help to make it a success again this year, so if you want to sign up please do so soon! We need help with the set up and organizing in the days before the sale, and help on both of the sale days. I am attaching the timeline and the sign up sheet for you to look at and fill out. If you can't open them please let me know and I can send a copy out to you. I will have confirmation letters out to everyone that has sent in a signup sheet later this week. (web note: see end of this web page to download attachments as PDF)
Its almost time for another popular annual event- the annual CCHS Kitten Shower! This year the shower will be on Saturday June 14th at Lincoln Square mall. Last year 86 cats and kittens were adopted during the Kitten Shower- yes, that's 86 in one day! We would like to do even better this year but we will need your help. If you would like to help, please let me know by 5:00 pm on Wednesday June 11th. I will need help during the following shifts:
Friday evening (set up only): 5 to 7 pm at Lincoln Square Mall
Saturday: 8 am to 11 am (getting the cats loaded to move over to Lincoln Square, final set up and miscellaneous help in the first hour)
10 am to 1 pm (kitten watch and adoptions)
12 pm to 3 pm (kitten watch and adoptions)
2 pm to 5 pm (kitten watch and adoptions)
4 pm to 6 pm (take down and return animals to shelter)
I will also need volunteers to greet people at the entrance and direct them to the gift table, the cats, and to the application table if they find a cat or kitten to adopt. If you would like to be a greeter during one of the shifts, please specify greeter when you sign up for the shift.
I am now in need of volunteers to work in the Kitten Nursery again, weighing and charting all the weights of the kittens and mom cats. You must be able to commit to one day once a week. The weights must be done between noon and 4 pm. It usually takes 1 to 2 hours to do the weights, depending on how many kittens are in the Nursery, but it may take up to 3 or 4.
I have a few general notes for everyone:
- We raised the adoption fees to $75.00 for dogs/puppies, and $65.00 for cats/kittens.
- Please do not take down housebroken, visit me tomorrow, do not walk, or special feeding signs from any of the cages. These need to remain up for all volunteers, staff and adopters to see.
- Cats on the East wall of Adopt Cats (off of the dog kennel) may still be visited with. Cats/kittens in the 8 cages on the south wall are not up for adoption, and should not be visited with. There is a barrier in the room, so please do not move it. If you are visiting with the cats in this room, please enter and leave the room thru dog adopts, do not use the door thru the back hallway.
Finally, it is this time of year that we must reluctantly say goodbye to many of the students that have helped us during the fall and spring semesters. You have made a big difference to the staff and animals, and we can't thank you enough for your time and dedication. We want to wish everyone good luck on their finals, and to those of you that are graduating we want to say congratulations and wish you the best of luck in the future! Everyone is welcome to volunteer again if you will be returning for the fall semester, just let me know when you get back into town so I can fill you in on any changes that came about during the summer months. If you will not be returning in the fall, please let me know so I can take you off of the active volunteer list. Everyone leaving will be missed by all of the staff and the animals!
Thank you for once again taking the time to read the newsletter. Please let me know if you have any comments, suggestions or concerns!
