Pet Set Services

CCHS will implant a microchip (identification chip) in your dog or cat for a fee of $20.  An appointment is required. Call 217-344-7297.

Notice:  We are currently unable to take spay/neuter appointments.  We are very sorry for the inconvenience.  

Champaign County Animal Control has a low-cost spay/neuter program for County residents on government assistance.

CCHS is an open admission shelter that accepts all companion animals from owners who feel that this their best option. For more information, see how to surrender your pet.

If you require euthanasia services for an animal that is suffering and at the end of his/her life, we first recommend you bring the animal to a private-practice veterinarian. If that is not an option for you, our licensed euthanasia technicians can perform requested euthanasia for a fee of $65 for dogs, $45 for cats, and $30 for small animals. An appointment is required so that we can make sure that a technician is available.

Important Considerations Related to Requested Euthanasia:

1. Owners are not allowed to be present during euthanasia at CCHS.
2. Owners are required to surrender ownership of their animal to CCHS prior to euthanasia.
3. Following surrender of the animal, CCHS will make an independent determination as to whether euthanasia is warranted, and may determine that the animal can be treated, rehabilitated, and placed for adoption.

Our Free Food Program is a short-term, emergency-based program for providing pet owners in Champaign County with pet food (and supplies on a limited basis), on a first-come first-served basis. We are fortunate enough to have a variety of pet food and supplies donated to us that we do not use for the animals at our facility. We are happy to use these donated goods to support pet owners in the community who need assistance providing their pets with food and other essentials.

To participate in the free food program, you must be a resident of Champaign County and agree that you will not acquire additional animals while using the program. Food must be picked up at CCHS after speaking with the free-food program coordinator. Email Elijah Imlay for more information.
