Our Pet Food Pantry Program is a short-term, emergency-based program for providing pet owners in Champaign County with pet food (and supplies on a limited basis), on a first-come first-served basis. We are fortunate enough to have a variety of pet food and supplies donated to us that we do not use for the animals at our facility. We are happy to use these donated goods to support pet owners in the community by providing pet food and basic supplies during times of temporary, urgent need.
To participate in the free food program, you must be a resident of Champaign County and agree that you will not acquire additional animals while using the program. Food must be picked up at CCHS after speaking with the free-food program coordinator. Once you have been notified that they're ready, you will have seven days to pick up your supplies, or they will be returned to the pantry for redistribution. Please keep in mind:
- We have a limited supply of donated food; recipients cannot expect to rely on this program long term.
- Food may not be immediately available when you request it.
- Food for each qualified recipient will only be available once per month.
- We may not be able to supply you with an entire month of food.
- Eligibility for food will not extend beyond 3 consecutive months.
Please consider giving in-kind donations to support the pantry. Whenever you have some random foods your pet didn't like or want to make a purchase to help out your community, we are deeply appreciative of your support. Because monetary contributions given to the shelter are used in the shelter, we only accept in-kind donations for the pantry. That means we can only accept foods, and vouchers or gift cards for foods, to give to those in need. If you can help us with any of the following, we can give them back to our community members:
- Unopened dry pet foods
- Canned, or otherwise factory sealed, wet pet foods
- Foods for a variety of life-stages, sizes, and other variables.
- Gift cards to pet suppliers (like Prairieland Feeds, pet-supply stores, Chewy, etc) or grocery stores accessible to our area (if they sell pet food!)
